The Same Sun
walking out of shadows
blowing off some steam
sunlight bathed my eyes
and that's when it occurred to me,
'This is like that morning when I got up quick
and walked down to the Thames
and I was happy just to be.'
but back at Pearson airport
it was 17 below
and my sunny vista
just got drifted in with snow
until I thought that vibe was gone
another verse to tack on to the song
that seems the only one I know
(chorus)
But it's the same sun
that sinks to the west each night.
It's the same sun
that sheds so many different lights.
Seems so clear,
so maybe it's just us who aren't so bright.
It's the same sun.
Someone spiked this drink
with a suggestion of the past
spun in the reflection
of the blue-green tumbler glass.
So much lost,
the hit's so hard
that all the things I thought were safely jarred
come spinning up at me at last.
In a blink it's summer and I'm 21 again
standing in the tall grass
with some folks who're still my friends
but quick as the illusion comes
the clouds roll in and leave me with the crumbs
of long ago that I still tend.
(chorus)
There is not another world.
These places that we see
while half the globe is watching
the same programs on T.V.
lie under the very sky
that shines or threatens rain on you or I
and it's the only place to be
and if they made my life a movie
it'd be more comedy than horror.
I didn't need a rifle
to go see another shore
but even in my wanderings
I've felt the way the quick incision stings
on the wrong side of either/or
(chorus)
Well it shines if you're a woman,
and it shines if you're a man
and it shines in Indonesia
like it does in Amsterdam,
and even if I'm so blissed out
I don't know where I am
It's the same sun...
