Service

Born to the music The Beatles played
in to the mess that America made;
civilization falling to the dollar.
Pushing that wheel's just not my speed.
I know that I've got to serve some need,
but you'll have to excuse me,
I'm picky about my collar.

(chorus)
and I admit it makes me nervous
standing up this way
but could I be of service?
You just have to ask,
that's why I wear this mask
to stand up here and bask in the light of day.

Believe it or not, I'm an optimist at the core,
dressed in the clothes of a troubadour.
I cannot pretend that I know any more than you do.
But, I can feel what I can't quite see
and, when I'm lucky, it comes through me.
I cannot explain it, no matter how hard I try to.

(chorus)

and I don't understand it,
but all my life it's been this way;
On the road to what I'm meant for,
and if I get there,
I hope that I will know.
I hope that I will know
what the hell that I'm supposed to say.

Well, now I've got my reasons, I?ve got my doubts,
don't know that I'll ever figure it out,
but I've got a good feeling,
and Gods know, I could use it.
Don't think there's too much more time to wait.
It's mostly just a matter of faith
but faith's what I've got, no matter how I try to lose it.

and I admit it made me nervous
standing up this way
but could I be of service?
You just have to ask,
that's why I wear this mask;
to stand up here and bask in the light of day

(here comes the light of day)
