What It Means b/w Bastard 2
Just before the 2nd A1000M CD came out January 01/03, we were
happy to be able to use a couple extra songs from it's sessions to revive
a somewhat lost tradition and release a non-album 'single' online.
In Britain, back in the day, seems it was considered crass to include singles on an album,
(though you could release them AFTER it), and many classic tunes like The Beatles
"Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane", the Who's "Substitute" or the Stones' "Jumping Jack Flash"
were originally not on the albums who's sessions they were recorded at or ajoined.
In this day and age, it's a bit of a waste to use a whole CD to put out a couple more songs
not on the album, and last time, we didn't have enough to fill CD-1 anyway, but with a
surplus of songs this time and the internet as a medium, this seemed a nice point to revive the tradition.
Here, then, is a1000m's first pre-album single, from the new sessions
but NOT part of the new CD if you order it.

The A Side; 'What It Means'
The band have messed with this on and off since about the fall of 2001, though we haven't
done it live yet as of Dec/02. It's very representative of the more power-pop side of the new CD,
and fairly harmonious with the last one, though the new one does go to alot of other musical
places as well. A decent sonic fit, but too cheery and 'off topic' lyrically for CD2, so it's our single!

The B Side; 'Bastard (vs. 2.0)'
Now admittedly, there's nothing else like THIS one on the new album, but...
A B-Side should be something kind of obscure or weird, and this fun remake of one of the songs
off our first CD, done at the session to capture a new arrangement we'd started doing live
recently, and giving it a half twist further in the style of a 'Rather Famous Band', fills the bill.
When the album is out, we will eventually offer a track or some clips from it too,
but for now, enjoy this teaser...
